Hobbies

Hello future student! I’m excited to get started on a new journey of discovering the world around us. You will find that I have a passion for different cultures, especially in terms of food, and an endless supply of curiosity that will drive that curious cat within you. I have traveled and lived in several countries around the globe, with the U.S. as my motherland. My exposure to the horticultural industry through to account managing for the largest retailer in the world- Walmart, will give you a lot of real-world examples and applications you can apply to school, college or even your working life. I grew up in southern Wisconsin on the shores of Lake Michigan and loved the occasional trek over the border to Canada. My family enjoyed hosting exchange students, from Japan, Vietnam, Germany, Greece and Italy. We loved teaching these students the culture, customs and language they sought to master. In return, we learned so much about human geography, world politics and poetry. While in college I traveled abroad and tested work in a variety of fields including horticulture, viticulture, serving as an Au Pair and local biodiversity. Today, I have worked with some of the largest corporations in the world and the most amazing non-profits (I support the Salvation Army!). My teaching style is often as a devil’s advocate, I challenge what you know, what you think you know and guide you to discover what you can know. I enjoy a lot of conversations that lead to discovering your interests so that I can quickly apply that to the lesson plan. We will laugh as learning is fun, yet I will push you and test you to ensure you’re not memorizing, but truly understanding the subject. I love the outdoors, it’s not unusual to see me kayaking the Katherine Gorge in Australia or camping in the Moors of northern England. I enjoy traveling because it forces me to stretch outside of my comfort zone. I also like a variety of foods- Thai green curry? Yes! I like technology especially in the greener- solutions space. I have a secret obsession with the earth sciences too and have climbed a couple volcanoes in my life! Look forward to begin learning and growing with you!
